Scrapland Dev. MercurySteam Pub. Enlight Software MSRP: $29.99 Systems: XBX Imagine if the upcoming movie Robots had an accompanying game based on GTA, and you'll some idea how Scrapland looks and plays. The art design is nice, as is the ability to take on the body of different robots with varying abilities. The gameplay is decently open-ended and diverse, but it also doesn't offer much you haven't done before in one form or another. Still, the presentation is nice, and the world is well-realized. Worth the price of admission if you're intrigued.
World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 International Dev. Konami Pub. Konami MSRP: $39.99 Systems: PS2, XBX Though EA's Fifa series might have all the licensed teams and players, WSWE8I (how's that for an acronym) gets the nod when it comes to true simulation of the sport. It's been that way for a while too; this year adds the usual batch of slight improvements you'll find in any sports sim, but it's still a great game if you have any interest in the sport. Oh, and it's on Xbox too for the first time.
A Sound of Thunder Dev. BAM! Pub. BAM! MSRP: $19.99 Systems: GBA Every time we write about this game, it's release gets pushed farther back. So I'll follow tradition here, and see if it's new date (this week) sticks. Based on the upcoming Ben Kingsley (Species) movie of the same name, someone or other finds themself time travelling, or something, to a time when gorilla-faced dinosaurs ruled the earth. I'm not kidding, look it up. Anyhow, this game is a drab, overhead exploration affair, and no, it's not worth more then seventeen cents when there are so many other, better GBA games out there. But hey, hilarious attempt at a game guys.
