Coded Arms
Dev. Konami Pub. Konami MSRP: $39.99 Systems: PSP
The PSP could certainly use a new game or two, especially amongst the deluge of awful movies being released for it. The system can definitely handle a First Person Shooter, and does so decently well with Coded Arms, but the controls just aren't there. Using the analog nub for 3D movement is unpleasant enough by itself, and combined with the buttons to serve as 'look' and aim commands, it just feels like Turok 1, i.e. unplayable. The graphics are nice enough, the weapon selection is pretty strong, and I'm sure the multiplayer is fun enough - it's just hard to appreciate any part of it when the game is broken on the user input end.

Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack
Dev. Bungie Pub. Microsoft MSRP: $19.99 Systems: XBX
I got the chance to play a couple of the five new maps (for a total of nine on the disc, which includes the others released for download thus far) at E3 this year, and they definitely don't disappoint. If you can wait until the end of the summer they'll all be free, but no one who plays the game with any regularity will tell you that's a sane plan. It's the best online multiplayer game, period, and each new update or map released is a pretty damn big deal. Anyhow, the new maps are great for the most part, and there should be no hesitation for anyone looking to seriously expand their game.

Killer 7
Dev. Grasshopper Pub. Capcom MSRP: $49.99 Systems: PS2, GC
Now HERE'S a game. It's rare to see a new title that stays true to the designer's original intent and vision, and even more rare when it plays completely uniquely. You play as seven alter egos of a hitman, up against an underworld crime boss and a very odd virus. The gameplay isn't so much innovative as simply lacking classification - there are adventure bits, odd dialogue inserts, free and limited movement, and shooting bits - all wrapped up together it's very compelling, if not a bit too strange for it's own good sometimes. The story and character designs are refreshingly mature, and it's one of the most visually compelling games you'll play this year (yes, I realize there's a new system coming out). I can't promise you'll enjoy it, but a little risk would probably do you some good.
